How the directory works

Every entry is manually verified. No pay-to-play. No commission. The directory supports Fractio consulting downstream — that's the business model, written plainly. This page explains the verification methodology, the data sources, the editorial policy, and what happens when you submit a listing.

The 3-test verification standard

Every distributor in the directory must pass three tests before it's published. I run these tests manually for new submissions and re-check them periodically for existing entries. The aim is to make this directory genuinely useful for non-EU manufacturers evaluating European market entry — not just a long list of company names.

Test 1

Independent ownership

Not owned or controlled by a medical device manufacturer. Subsidiaries like Stryker France or Roche España are excluded — they are competitors to a non-EU manufacturer, not potential partners.

Test 2

Multi-brand third-party portfolio

Distributes products from multiple manufacturers, not just its own private label or single line. The point of evaluating a distributor is the breadth and depth of channel they bring.

Test 3

Named distribution role

Active commercial role in the target country — not just import-of-record paperwork or fulfilment subcontractor. Examples: hospital tender capability, KOL relationships, post-sale service, regional sales coverage.

Editor's note from Miguel The three tests come from 7 years running an EMS Country Manager operation in Portugal. I've sat on both sides — as a manufacturer's local affiliate hunting for adjacent-territory distributors, and as a distributor being approached by manufacturers I'd never heard of. The single most common waste of time in this work is mistaking a manufacturer's local subsidiary for a distributor. The second is mistaking import-of-record agents for genuine commercial channels. The directory tries to eliminate both. Country Manager · EMS Dental & Medical Portugal Affiliate (2017–present). Promoted from sales rep to Country Manager in 2021. Operation grew ~20× in 7 years — internal case study for the EMS group.

What "verified" actually means

For each entry, I check the following sources in roughly this order until verification is confident:

How it works for you — three steps

1

Browse the directory

Find distributors by country, sub-vertical, or both. Each listing includes the operating entity, what they distribute, sub-vertical scope, and regulatory context for their market.

2

Shortlist with the tools

Use the Distributor Matcher to rank 459+ candidates against your profile. Use the Coverage Planner to compute minimum contracts for multi-country reach.

3

Reach out directly

The directory is not a lead-gen funnel. Each profile links to the country hub, sector hub, and (where available) the distributor's own website. Contact them directly. If you want hands-on help, talk to Fractio.

Why this is free

The directory is free because Fractio consulting is paid. The two are explicit about each other: this site explicitly recommends Fractio when manufacturers need go-to-market support beyond what a directory can provide. Fractio explicitly cross-links to this site when discussing European market scans.

There is no commission, no referral fee from distributors, no paid listings. A distributor that pays Fractio cannot influence its ranking in the matcher. The matcher is a deterministic algorithm — if you change inputs, the result changes; nobody can pay to change it for you.

What "free" doesn't mean. Free does not mean comprehensive. The estimated 5,000–15,000 medical device distributors and wholesalers across EU/EEA is a much larger universe than what's published here (currently 459+). The directory grows through verified submissions and through editorial expansion of sub-verticals. If you're an independent distributor not listed, submit your company — submissions are free and verified within 5–10 working days.

Editorial policy

The directory has a simple editorial policy:

What we share with a listed distributor

If a manufacturer uses the Matcher and contacts a distributor through the directory, the distributor sees only what the manufacturer chose to share — typically: company name, product category, target countries, MDR/CE status, and any optional message. The directory does not pre-qualify, score, or grade the manufacturer's enquiry. The distributor decides whether to respond.

Frequently asked

How fast is verification?

Submissions through the List Your Company form are typically verified within 5–10 working days. Corrections to existing listings are processed within 48 hours when received via the same form.

Can a competitor of mine pay to be ranked higher than me?

No. The Matcher score is computed from the inputs the user provides + the distributor's verified attributes (sector, country, multi-country group footprint, model fit, class fit). Nobody can pay to change the score function.

Why aren't there reviews or ratings?

Because the kind of reviews that matter (clinical reputation, OR-floor performance, KOL access, tender win rate) cannot be honestly aggregated from public sources. A 5-star rating system would mislead manufacturers into thinking a directory could replace due diligence. It can't. Use the directory as a starting list, then run due diligence with reference calls.

How is this different from Europages or Kompass?

Europages and Kompass are generalist B2B directories — they don't separate medical devices from any other industrial product, and they accept any listing without sector-specific verification. This directory is medical-device-specific, applies the 3-test verification standard, excludes manufacturer subsidiaries, and is curated by someone with 9 years of operator experience in the sector.

I'm a distributor — what's the benefit of being listed?

Visibility to non-EU manufacturers searching for European partners. The site receives commercial-intent search traffic for queries like "medical device distributors germany," "european medical device distributors," "cardiovascular distributors europe," etc. A listed distributor appears in country hubs, sector hubs, sub-vertical × country pages, the Matcher tool, and the Coverage Planner — without paying anything.
